Mail Chimp: Adding an Individual to Your List

1.  Start by logging into Mail Chimp.

2.  The navigation bar appears across the top of the screen.  Click on the “Lists” link.

3.  Next you’ll be brought to the list screen.

4.  Click on the View Button, and off of that button click subscribe.

5.  Under the list name, click Subscribe.

6.  And then type in the recipients information.

Notes

  • You must have this person’s permission before adding him to your list. If you add a person manually this way, there will be no double opt-in “paper trail” in case the person forgets and reports you for spamming.

7.  Click the Subscribe button and you are done.

Setting Up the Email Function within QuickBooks

Use the Send Forms feature to email Invoice, Estimates, Credit Memos from within QuickBooks.  To setup the email feature within QuickBooks just follow the steps below.  Note, that if you have multiple email addresses you can select the primary email address to be used be making it the default address.

1. Select the Edit Menu, and then choose Preferences.

2.  The Preferences dialog box will open.

3.  Down the left side of the box, click on Send Forms

4.  Make sure that the My Preferences tab is selected

A.  Use the Web Mail Option to setup a gmail, and yahoo email address

  •  Click the Web Mail option, and then click the Add button
  • Send Form II
  • File in your email address in the Email ID box, and then select the provider from the drop down list
  • The remaining information will be filled in based on the provider selected above.
  • Click OK – your done.

B.  To Use Microsoft Outlook to process your emails –

Select Outlook and click OK.

Manually Installing QuickBooks

Performing a hard drive installation of QuickBooks can be useful if you are experiencing problems with the normal installation process, or if you are reinstalling QuickBooks and do not want to reinstall its other Windows components.

Manually Installing QuickBooks, also know as an Install from the hard drive:

  1. Insert the QuickBooks installation CD in the drive.   If the InstallShield Wizard starts, close it.
  2. Double-click the My Computer (Windows XP or 2000) or Computer (Windows 7 or Vista) icon on your Windows desktop and double-click the CD drive letter.
  3. Right-click the QBooks folder and select Copy.
  4. Right-click an empty space on your Windows desktop and select Paste.
  5. From the CD right-click the Thirdparty folder and click Copy.
  6. Right-click an empty space on your Windows desktop and click Paste.
  7. Double-click the Qbooks folder on your desktop to open it.
  8. Double-click Setup.exe or Setup, whichever one you see depending on whether Windows Explorer is configured to show or hide file extensions. The correct file lists Application in the Type column in the window.
  9. Follow the instructions to install QuickBooks.

Facebook: How to Backup Your Account

The Backup feature in Facebook allows you to download your complete profile to your computer.  This feature will backup all your messages, wall posts, photos, status updates and profile information. Please note that not all Facebook accounts are activate with this feature.  So don’t panic if you don’t see it your Account Settings, just check back later to see if it has been integrated into your account.

How to Backup Your Facebook Account

1.  Start by log in into your Facebook Account.

2.  Drop down the “Arrow” button next to the “Home” button

3.  On the drop down menu, choose “Account Settings”

 

4.  Click on the link “Download your information”.

5.  Next the “Download Your Information” window will open.

6.  Click on the “Start My Archive” button to begin the down load.

7.  Next, the “Request My Download” dialog box will appear.

8.  Click the “Okay” button to be begin  the download

9.  Next, A pending message will appear in the middle of the screen.

10.  Facebook will email you once the download is ready to be retrieved.  Once you receive this email you can download you backup file to your computer.

Creating Strong Passwords

The best way to protect your information is to have a strong password.  It is a simple thing to do, and here are some tips on how to create strong passwords to secure your data.  And as mentioned below, the one thing many people over look is to change their  passwords every 6 months.

  1. Create a password with at least eight characters. The longer the password, the safer.
  2. Use both upper and lowercase letters. Mix numbers or symbols in between the letters.
  3. Don’t use a password that has any resemblance to your user name. Avoid using family members, pets or any other personal information that could be obtained easily by a thief.
  4. Change your password every six months. When changing your password, avoid using different variations of the old password. Come up with an entirely new password.
  5. Avoid writing your password down. Consider investing in a device that will hold your password and encrypt it at the same time.
  6. Try not to enter your password into a computer you don’t own. Definitely do not get online with another computer you don’t own and enter your password for financial sites.

QR Codes, What Are They & How to Create One

Quick QR Generates a graphic for you to use in your printed materials.  You can even create a QR Code for a specific page of your website.  One thing to help get your QR Code opened (scanned) is to put instructions with the code in your printed materials.

Here is some sample text that I have used in the past with my QR Codes:

              “Scan this QR Code with your smart phone to visit C3 Solutions website.  Don’t have a QR Scanner?  Just search your smart phone apps for a QR scanner, and follow the download instructions.”

How to Exit a Program that is “Not Responding”

Task Manager displays the programs, processes, and services that are currently running on your computer. You can use Task Manager to monitor your computer’s performance or to close a program that’s not responding.

1.  Open the Task Manager, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del keys and select Task Manager

2.  Right-click on top of the task bar

3.  Next, click Start Task Manager.

4.  Make sure that the Applications tab is displayed, click the program that isn’t responding, and then click the End Task button.

Starting your computer in the “Safe Mode”

Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Start up programs do not run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed.

Safe mode is useful for troubleshooting problems with programs and drivers that might not start correctly, or that might prevent Windows from starting correctly.

1. Turn the computer on.
2. Before Windows launches (before the Windows logo appears on screen), press the F8 key
3. An Operating menu will appear.  Choose the safe mode from the list.
4. Use the arrow keys to highlight the appropriate safe mode option, and then press ENTER.
5. Window will now load with only the necessary drivers for operation.
