Inserting an Image into a Post in WordPress

  1. Starting in the Post window open
  2. Place your cursor where you would like the image to appear, then click on the media icon above your post/page editor:
  3. As of WordPress 3.3, you can drag and drop your files into the box that appears, or click Select Files to choose a picture from your computer to upload. Note that the drag and drop uploader only works in browsers with HTML5 upload support such as the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, or Safari. Other browsers will still show the Select Files button or the basic browser uploader form.
  4. Once the uploading/crunching process has completed, you will be given the option to edit some settings before inserting the image into the post/page.
    Title – Text displayed as a tooltip (when a mouse is hovered over the image)
    Caption – Image caption displayed directly underneath the image (will also serve as the alternate text.)
    Description – Text displayed with the image in your dashboard and attachment pages on your blog.
    Link URL / Link Image to: – The URL/web address to which the image will be linked. Click the File URL button to link the image to its original, full-size version. Click the Post URL button to have the image linked to its attachment page.
    Alignment – The position of the image within your post or page. See our page about image alignment for more help.
    Size – The size of the image.
    Click the Edit Image button beneath the image preview to rotate, flip, scale, or crop the image.
  5. Click Insert into Post when you’re done adjusting the image’s settings.

When you set a size for your image, WordPress will create a new version of your file, not just resize it. The sizes are listed below each label, determine the maximum dimensions in pixels to use when inserting the image into the body of a post. You can define those dimensions in Administration Panels > Settings > Media SubPanel:
